WELCOME to the MINDFUL MAGIC. I work with companies that want their teams to work together better and improve the quality of Stress Management.
I am Debra W. Gould, President & CEO of Debra Gould & Associates, Inc., a Performance Management company.
What do you do when you feel like everything is an emergency and should have been done yesterday? Decision paralysis has set in. The three basic choices you have in every stressful situation are to accept it, change it, or leave it. And then there really is a fourth-make no choice. Accepting that a situation is stressful for you is the first step to being able to handle the stress. The next question to ask yourself is whether there is anything you can do to change it? If there is, you do whatever you can do. If there isn’t, you leave it and go on. Sometimes there are situations that are stressful where there are things that you can do for yourself but the source of the problem is another person, system, or situation that you have no control over. Once again, you do as much as you can do to get the change to occur. Many people don’t make decisions. They wait to see what happens around them and are then forced to take whatever comes along. It is important to know that no decision is a decision. Not making a decision can be one of the first steps to low self-esteem and setting yourself up to become a victim in your own life. The Serenity Prayer offers YOU the first best step to honestly look at overwhelming stress in your life. Keep it in mind as you use the following chart as a guide to assess the stressful situations that may be impacting your life today. If you decide to accept the situation, leave the situation, or decide not to decide: no further action is required. If you decide to alter or change the situation, you will then need to come up with a plan for how you are going to change this stressful situation in your life.
Problem-Solving Stressful Situations- “Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”
